Spiral wrapping band: function and use

Posted on 28 August 2025

Bundling cables can be done in many different ways: with a cable tie, with tape, with corrugated tubing, or with spiral wrapping band. Using spiral wrapping band is simple and therefore a popular choice in office environments, among others. What spiral wrapping band exactly is, what the properties of spiral wrapping band are and how you use it, you can read below.

What is spiral wrapping band?

Spiral wrapping band looks a bit like corrugated tubing. Spiral wrapping band is actually a tube made of polyethylene, but instead of being completely closed, the tube has a cut along the long side. This creates a tube in the shape of a spiral. This makes it easy to place cables in the spiral wrapping band and to remove them again (possibly per cable, when dealing with a cable bundle).

Properties of spiral wrapping band

Our spiral wrapping bands are, as mentioned, made of polyethylene. This makes spiral wrapping bands resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +60°C. Additionally, polyethylene is impact and wear resistant. This allows our spiral wrapping bands to withstand rough handling.

Our spiral wrapping bands are available in black and natural colors. They have a minimum inner diameter of 5 millimeters and a maximum inner diameter of 21 millimeters. The outer diameter is minimum 6 and maximum 24 millimeters.

Use of spiral wrapping band

Follow the steps below for proper use of spiral wrapping band.

Choose the right size

It's important that you take a spiral wrapping band whose diameter fits the diameter of your cable bundle. Spiral wrapping band can stretch somewhat, but choose an inner diameter that is not much smaller than the cable bundle – preferably the diameter is slightly larger.

Wrap the spiral wrapping band around the cable bundle

You can do this in a similar way as you would with tape. Take the cable bundle, take the end of the spiral wrapping band in your other hand and wrap the spiral wrapping band around the cable bundle. Optionally, there are also tools available for easy application of spiral wrapping band.

Secure the spiral wrapping band to a surface, if necessary

You can optionally secure the spiral wrapping band to a surface with a mounting bracket or a cable tie, so that it stays in place.
