WKK offers five types of Steinel heat guns. Steinel is a renowned manufacturer of heat guns with locations in five countries across Europe. These heat guns can be used for a wide range of applications: from car wrapping and paint stripping to shrinking heat shrink tubing. In this blog, we’ll focus on using Steinel heat guns for shrinking heat shrink tubing. But how do you use Steinel heat guns for this purpose? And what are the differences between the various types? You’ll find out in this blog!
What can you do with a heat gun?
The shrink temperature of heat shrink tubing varies by type and ranges from 65 °C to 260 °C. Most types have a shrink temperature between 110 °C and 135 °C. There are various ways to shrink heat shrink tubing, such as using a match, a soldering iron, or a hairdryer. However, if you want to control the temperature precisely, the best option is a heat gun. With a heat gun, you can set the exact temperature to achieve optimal results when shrinking heat shrink tubing.
Keep in mind that when you shrink a piece of heat shrink tubing on, for example, a cable, the tubing can also shrink slightly in length. Typically, it shrinks by up to 10% in length.
Once you’ve cut the tubing to the correct length, place it over the object (such as a cable) that you want to insulate. Then set the heat gun to the desired temperature and turn it on. Move the heat gun, and therefore the airflow, gradually along the length of the tubing so that it shrinks evenly. Avoid direct contact: If the heat source touches the tubing directly, it can become damaged. Learn more about using heat shrink tubing here.
