Green heat shrink tubing
Heat shrink tubing is available in an extensive selection of designs, types, and colors, each with specific properties and applications. One of the available colors is green, which is available in various types, all of which are thin-walled.
Available types of green heat shrink tubing
Three types of green shrink tubing are available:
- H-2(Z) – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 2:1
- H-2(3X) – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 3:1
- H-5(3X)-F – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 3:1
These types are available in various sizes.
Differences between types of heat shrink tubing
Choosing the right type of heat shrink tubing can be challenging, given the wide selection available. The main differences between the green heat shrink tubing types are:
- Wall thickness
- Material type
- Shrink ratio
Thin-wall, medium-wall, or heavy-wall heat shrink tubing
All green heat shrink tubing in our range is thin-walled, with a wall thickness of 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters before shrinking. This makes them more flexible than medium-wall or heavy-wall shrink tubing, while still providing better mechanical protection.
Material types: crosslinked polyolefin and crosslinked co-extruded adhesive lined polyolefin
All green heat shrink tubing is made from crosslinked polyolefin. The H-5(3X)-F type contains an adhesive layer, produced via co-extrusion with adhesive. This means the adhesive layer is created simultaneously with the tubing, rather than being added afterward.
Shrink ratio: 2:1 and 3:1
Heat shrink tubing generally has a shrink ratio of 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1, which means that the diameter after shrinking is respectively 50%, 33%, or 25% of the original diameter. Our green heat shrink tubing is available in the shrink ratios 2:1 and 3:1.
Example:
The H-5(3X)-F type has a shrink ratio of 3:1. This means that if you choose a version with an internal diameter of 3 millimeters before shrinking, the diameter will shrink to just 1 millimetre after heating.
Choosing the right size
It is important to choose heat shrink tubing where the diameter after shrinking is slightly smaller than the cable diameter. For example, for a cable with a diameter of 10 millimeters, choose heat shrink tubing with a pre-shrink diameter of 24 millimeters (with a 3:1 shrink ratio), so that the heat shrink tubing will provide a good bond and seal.
Applications of green heat shrink tubing
Green heat shrink tubing is commonly used for marking cables and cable bundles. By using different colors of shrink tubing, cables can be easily distinguished from each other. Additionally, it can also be used to change the color of a cable, for example, from black to green.
