Polypropylene
Polypropylene is a material that is more resistant to chemicals than other types of plastics. This makes polypropylene cable ties suitable for use in environments where they may be exposed to substances such as salts, acids, and alcohols. Due to the material’s low density (it absorbs little to no moisture), most liquids remain on the surface of the material.
Types of polypropylene cable ties
Our range includes three types of cable ties made from polypropylene:
- WKK – Plastic cable ties – Resistant to chemicals – Floats on liquids – Polypropylene
- Ty-Rap® – Plastic cable ties – Stainless steel lock – Resistant to chemicals – Floats on liquids – UV-resistant – Polypropylene
- Ty-Rap® – Plastic cable ties with metal pigments – Stainless steel lock – Detectable – Polypropylene
Each of these types has different characteristics, but they also share some common properties.
Properties of polypropylene cable ties
Cable ties made from polypropylene offer several advantages over those made from polyamide 6.6. For example, they are chemically resistant and float on liquids. This makes them easy to detect in production processes, especially if they end up in a container of chemicals, for instance. They are halogen-free and silicone-free and comply with flammability class UL 94 HB.
Some properties differ by type.
WKK – Plastic cable ties – Resistant to chemicals – Floats on liquids – Polypropylene
The polypropylene cable tie variant from our own WKK brand is resistant to temperatures ranging from -20°C to +75°C. Unlike the Ty-Rap® cable ties, these feature a plastic locking barb. They are green and available in six variations.
Ty-Rap® – Plastic cable ties – Stainless steel lock – Resistant to chemicals – Floats on liquids – UV-resistant – Polypropylene
Ty-Rap® polypropylene cable ties are resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C. They have a stainless steel locking tongue and are black, which makes them UV resistant.
Ty-Rap® – Plastic cable ties with metal pigments – Stainless steel lock – Detectable – Polypropylene
Detectable polypropylene Ty-Rap® cable ties have the same properties as the 'standard' polypropylene Ty-Rap® ties, with one major difference: the polypropylene is mixed with metal pigments and they are blue. This makes them detectable: the blue color makes them visually easy to spot when (parts of) the tie end up in the production process, and the metal pigments make them detectable with a metal detector. This makes this type of cable tie especially suitable for the food or pharmaceutical industries.
