Medium-wall busbar insulation tubing
Insulating heat shrink tubing for busbars is primarily used in environments where there is a risk of creepage current. This type of shrink tubing is made from modified polyolefin, which provides excellent electrical properties.
Properties of medium-wall busbar insulation tubing
Medium-wall busbar insulation tubing is made from modified polyolefin. This material offers specific characteristics that give the tubing excellent electrical properties, including resistance to creepage current. Depending on the variant, the wall thickness after shrinkage ranges from 2.0 to 2.8 millimeters.
Our insulating heat shrink tubing for busbars is flat in shape. In addition, the tubing is self-extinguishing and flame-retardant according to ASTM D2671 Procedure B, meaning it self-extinguishes within 60 seconds. It is also UV-resistant and halogen-free.
The tubing can be used in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +120 °C. The minimum full shrink temperature is +110 °C.
Medium-wall busbar insulation tubing is only available in red and in a 2.5:1 shrink ratio. The tubing shrinks up to a maximum of 10% in length.
It is only available on rolls of 15 or 30 meters.
Applications of medium-wall busbar insulation tubing
Thanks to its creepage current resistance, insulating heat shrink tubing for busbars is widely used in the electrical engineering sector. A busbar is a thick copper strip that conducts electricity, for example, in a distribution board or switchboard. Because the shrink tubing offers resistance to creepage current, it is ideal for protecting these busbars. Additionally, the flame-retardant and self-extinguishing properties help protect the installation from fire.
Alternatives to medium-wall busbar insulation tubing
An alternative to medium-wall busbar insulation tubing is the heavy-wall version. While medium-wall tubing has a post-shrink wall thickness of 2.0 to 2.8 millimeters (depending on the selected variant), heavy-wall tubing offers a wall thickness ranging from at least 3.9 to a maximum of 4.1 millimeters after shrinkage.
