Yellow heat shrink tubing
Heat shrink tubing is available in a wide range of designs, types, and colors. Each of these variants has its own properties and applications. One of the colors in which heat shrink tubing is available is yellow. Yellow heat shrink tubing is available in several types, all of which are thin-walled.
Which types of yellow heat shrink tubing are available?
Five types of heat shrink tubing are available in yellow:
- H-2(Z) – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 2:1
- H-2(Z) 2PF – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 2:1
- H-2(Z) 3PF – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 3:1
- H-2(3X) – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 3:1
- H-5(3X)-F – Thin-wall heat shrink tubing – 3:1
Each of these types is available in various sizes.
Differences between different types of heat shrink tubing
Choosing the right type of heat shrink tubing is not always simple. Since there is such a wide range of designs, types, and variants, it can be difficult to determine which type is best suited for your application. The main differences between the different types of yellow heat shrink tubing are:
- Thin-wall, medium-wall, or heavy-wall shrink tubing
- Different materials: Crosslinked polyolefin or crosslinked co-extruded adhesive lined polyolefin
- Different shrink ratios: 2:1 or 3:1
Thin-wall, medium-wall, or heavy-wall heat shrink tubing
All yellow heat shrink tubing in our range is thin-walled, with a wall thickness of 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters before shrinking. This makes them more flexible than medium-wall or heavy-wall heat shrink tubing. However, they provide less mechanical protection compared to medium-wall or heavy-wall tubing.
Different materials: Crosslinked polyolefin or crosslinked co-extruded adhesive lined polyolefin
All yellow heat shrink tubing is made from crosslinked polyolefin. The H-5(3X)-F type contains an adhesive layer and is produced via co-extrusion with adhesive. This means the adhesive layer is produced simultaneously with the shrink tubing, rather than being applied afterward.
Different shrink ratios: 2:1 & 3:1
Our yellow heat shrink tubing is available in a 2:1 or 3:1 shrink ratio, depending on the type. For example: The H-5(3X)-F type has a 3:1 shrink ratio. If you use the variant with an internal diameter of 3 millimeters before shrinking, the tubing will shrink to a diameter of 1 millimetre after shrinking: the diameter shrinks by a factor of 3.
Always choose heat shrink tubing with a post-shrink diameter that is slightly smaller than the cable diameter. For example, if you have a cable with a diameter of 10 millimeters, choose shrink tubing with a pre-shrink diameter of 24 millimeters. When the shrink tubing shrinks around the cable (using a 3:1 shrink ratio, resulting in a post-shrink diameter of 8 millimeters), you’ll be ensured of a good bond and seal.
Applications of yellow shrink tubing
Yellow heat shrink tubing can be used for marking cables and cable bundles. By marking different cables with different colors of heat shrink tubing, you can easily distinguish them.
Additionally, yellow heat shrink tubing can be used to change the color of a cable, for example, from black to yellow.
