Plastic cable ties

Plastic cable ties, also known as plastic zip ties, are in high demand. Plastic is a popular material due to its excellent price-quality ratio. This makes plastic cable ties suitable for many different applications. WKK offers a wide range of plastic cable ties: from various material quality grades, colors, and sizes to different types of closures and cable ties designed for specific uses.

WKK plastic cable ties: the different materials

WKK’s plastic cable ties are available in the following materials: polyamide 6.6, polyamide 4.6, polyamide 12, polypropylene, and ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE, better known by the brand name Tefzel®). The right material quality for your needs depends on the intended application.

Polyamide 6.6

Polyamide 6.6 (also known as PA 66 or Nylon 66) is a versatile material for plastic cable ties. It is suitable for nearly all applications due to its favorable lifespan, heat resistance, electrical properties, and competitive price. Within polyamide 6.6, you also have the option of choosing a higher heat resistance (from +85 °C to +120 °C).

Polyamide 4.6

Choose polyamide 4.6 if you need a higher heat resistance than polyamide 6.6 offers. While the maximum operating temperature of PA 6.6 is +120 °C, PA 4.6 can withstand temperatures up to +150 °C.

Polyamide 12

If you need UV-resistant cable ties (for outdoor use, for example) and/or higher chemical resistance, polyamide 12 is the best option. These ties are relatively insensitive to fluctuating environmental conditions and remain flexible in cold, dry conditions. However, polyamide 12 cable ties have a lower tensile strength than those made from polyamide 6.6.

Polypropylene

Plastic cable ties made from polypropylene are ideal for applications where resistance to chemicals and/or the ability to float on liquids is required. Polypropylene provides higher chemical resistance than PA 12 and withstands many acids, bases, solvents, and bacteria.

Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE)

The most advanced material quality in our plastic cable tie range is ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE, also known as Tefzel®). These cable ties are not only highly resistant to chemicals (acids, bases, and solvents) but also to radiation and extremely high and low temperatures (-60 °C to +170 °C).

Available cable tie colors – Delivered from stock

WKK offers a wide range of colored cable ties. Whether you're looking for black or natural (the most common colors) or something more specific like blue, brown, yellow, gray, green, orange, purple, red, or white – many colors are available from stock. Colored cable ties are ideal for marking cables or aligning with your branding or project color scheme.

Plastic cable ties – 3 closure types

There are three types of closures for plastic cable ties:

  • Plastic closure with plastic locking barb
  • Releasable plastic closure with plastic locking barb
  • Plastic closure with stainless steel locking barb

Not all plastic closures allow for release. If you’re looking for reusable cable ties, choose the releasable type. A plastic closure with a stainless steel locking barb – commonly used by the brand Ty-Rap® – is stronger and therefore more durable than a fully plastic closure.

Choosing the right type of plastic cable tie

Need cable ties in a different material?

In addition to plastic cable ties, WKK also offers stainless steel and detectable cable ties. Stainless steel cable ties are suited for extreme applications. Compared to plastic, stainless steel is more durable, has higher tensile strength, and is better able to withstand high temperatures and harsh weather conditions.

Cable tie accessories

Looking for a cable tie tools? Or perhaps adhesive mounts for cable ties? WKK also supplies an extensive range of accessories for plastic zip ties.
