Polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments
Polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments is used for detectable cable ties. The plastic is regular polyamide 6.6, but tiny metal particles are mixed into it. This makes even the smallest pieces of cable tie detectable by a metal detector.
The tensile strength and temperature resistance of this material are not affected by the metal pigments, meaning they are the same as those for regular polyamide 6.6.
Types of cable ties made from polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments
Our range includes two types of cable ties made from polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments:
- WKK – Plastic cable ties with metal pigments – Detectable
- Ty-Rap® – Plastic cable ties with metal pigments – Stainless steel locking mechanism – Detectable – Polyamide 6.6
Both types of cable ties are made from the same material but differ in one aspect: the locking mechanism of Ty-Rap® cable ties is made of stainless steel, while for WKK cable ties it is made of polyamide 6.6.
Properties of polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments
Polyamide 6.6 is a plastic used for the production of most types of cable ties. This plastic is suitable for use in most environments. By adding metal pigments to polyamide 6.6, the cable ties—and fragments of them—become detectable with a metal detector. Additionally, by making them blue, they are also visually detectable if they end up in a production process, for example.
Polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments is resistant to temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +85 °C and complies with flammability rating UL 94 HB. Furthermore, this material is halogen-free and silicone-free. Finally, polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments complies with the REACH, RoHS, and FDA standards.
Applications of cable ties made from polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments
Polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments is mainly used in environments where it is extremely important that (parts of) the cable tie can be detected and removed from, for example, a production process. These include the food and pharmaceutical industries. Thanks to their blue color and added metal pigments, the cable ties can be easily detected both visually and by various types of scanners, such as metal detectors.
Alternatives to polyamide 6.6 with metal pigments
An alternative to detectable cable ties made from polyamide 6.6 are detectable cable ties made from polypropylene. Polypropylene is more resistant to chemicals than polyamide 6.6. Additionally, cable ties made from polypropylene float better due to the low density of the plastic—it absorbs little to no moisture.
