Bootlace ferrules come in different types, colors and sizes. The choice for the right bootlace ferrule can sometimes be confusing. We answer various questions related to choosing the right bootlace ferrules in this blog. We focus primarily on the colors and dimensions of the bootlace ferrules.

Bootlace ferrules are available in different thicknesses. The thicknesses are indicated with 'D1' and 'D2'. 'D1' indicates the width of the bootlace ferrule at the insulation collar. 'D2' indicates the width of the copper tube.

But when do you choose each thickness of bootlace ferrule? In principle, that question is easy to answer. Choose a D2 thickness (so width of the insulation collar) that the end of the cable fits into. Make sure that the wires of the cable fit into the copper tube (D1).

The length of the bootlace ferrule is also indicated with two designations: 'L1' and 'L2'. 'L1' indicates the complete length of the bootlace ferrule, so of both the insulation collar and the copper tube. 'L2' indicates the length of only the copper tube.

Which length bootlace ferrule you choose depends strongly on your application. The length of the copper tube (the 'L2') can vary from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 32 millimeters. A longer copper tube can make it easier to connect the bootlace ferrule.

For a wire with a cross-section of 1.0 mm² we offer bootlace ferrules in the colors red and yellow.

For a wire with a cross-section of 0.50 mm² we offer bootlace ferrules in the colors white and orange.

For a wire with a cross-section of 2.5 mm² we offer bootlace ferrules in the colors blue and grey.
