Certified UV resistance classes for WKK cable ties
Posted on 22 July 2025
UV resistance has long been one of the most frequently asked topics among our customers. Whether cable ties are needed for outdoor electrical installations, solar panel setups, or general outdoor use, one key question remains: “How long will this cable tie last in outdoor conditions?”
The reason behind our new UV classifications
In order to provide a clear and reliable answer, WKK has introduced a new UV resistance classification system, along with certified declarations for each cable tie product group. This enables our customers to make confident, well-informed choices for their applications. The classification system also supports better product comparison, reliable outdoor recommendations, and advice based on certified testing.
Take a look at our UV-resistant cable ties here.
Classification into 3 durability levels
To simplify product selection and improve transparency, we now classify our cable ties into three UV resistance categories:
| UV Class | Material | Estimated UV Resistance | Recommended Use |
| Standard | PA6.6 black | 2–3 years | Basic outdoor applications |
| Strong | PA6.6 Vydyne® 25WSP black | 7–15 years | Demanding mid-term outdoor use |
| Highest Grade | PA12 black | 20+ years | Long-term installations (e.g. solar) |
Customers can request a “WKK Declaration of UV Resistance” for each class in their preferred language, making the selection process more transparent and efficient.
Our Cable Tie Materials and Their Classifications
PA6.6 (Standard)
Standard black nylon cable ties offer basic UV resistance, typically suitable for up to 2–3 years of outdoor use.
PA6.6 Vydyne® 25WSP (Strong)
Cable ties made from PA6.6 Vydyne® 25WSP provide strong UV resistance with a service life of 7 to 15 years. Thanks to finely dispersed carbon black and a balanced formulation, they absorb UV effectively and resist embrittlement over time.
PA12 (Highest Grade)
PA12 cable ties are ideal for the most demanding outdoor environments. This material is naturally UV-resistant and absorbs very little moisture, making it particularly suitable for solar installations and coastal areas. With an estimated UV lifespan of over 20 years, these cable ties offer long-term durability even under harsh conditions.
