What is the function of a corrugated tube?

What is the function of a corrugated tube?

Posted on 16 July 2025

A corrugated tube provides reliable mechanical protection for cables and pipes. The tubing is shock-resistant, flexible, and offers high resistance to tensile and compressive forces. Corrugated tubing is widely used in industries such as machine building, automotive, shipbuilding, and electrical installations.

Types of corrugated tubes

Our “standard” corrugated tube, from our own brand, is made of polypropylene or polyamide 6. They are available with an inner diameter ranging from 6.7 to 48.1 millimeters and in lengths of 25 and 50 meters. The bending radius varies from 13 to 100 millimeters.

This corrugated tube comes standard in black and has a peak temperature resistance of 150 °C.

Split corrugated tube essentially consists of a standard corrugated tube incorporated into a split design. However, it is still one product. Thanks to this double wall, your cables are extra well protected.

WKK – Corrugated tube – Slotted version

Slotted corrugated tube has the same properties as the “standard” corrugated tube but with one key difference: the tubing has a slot. This allows cables to be inserted through the slot instead of only through the ends. This means that cables (depending on how the tube is installed) can also be added after installation.

This version also comes standard in black and has a peak temperature resistance of 150 °C.

What is a corrugated tube used for?

A corrugated tube is used to protect cables and pipes. When cables are used in industries such as shipbuilding or machine building, it is crucial that they are not damaged. Corrugated tubing ensures that the cables are well protected from the start.

In addition, corrugated tubing is also used to protect pipes, such as gas pipes and water pipes. When used on a gas pipe, the tubing ensures that in the event of a leak, the gas cannot escape into the surrounding area.

Where is corrugated tubing used?

Corrugated tubing is used wherever it is important to ensure proper cable protection. Industries where corrugated tubes are widely applied include shipbuilding, machine building, the automotive sector, and electrical installations.

Is a corrugated tube mandatory?

In some situations, the use of a corrugated tube is mandatory. For example, this applies when a gas pipe runs through a damp area, such as a crawl space. The tubing ensures that gas cannot leak further into the area. For this purpose, do not use a slotted tube.

The use of a corrugated tube is also mandatory when a pipe passes through an exterior wall.

What can go into a corrugated tube?

In principle, anything can go into a corrugated tube. Common applications include cables, water pipes, and gas pipes, which are routed through corrugated tubes to protect them and to minimize the impact of leaks.
