Which types of heat shrink tubing are available in black?

The following types of heat shrink tubing are available in black:

  • H-2(Z)
  • H-2(3X)
  • H-2F
  • H-2R
  • H-2F(3X)
  • H-2F(4X)
  • H-2(HF)
  • H-2(LS)
  • H-1
  • H-5(3X)-F
  • H-5(4X)-F
  • H-5R(3X)
  • H-5R(4X)
  • HBK
  • H-200E
  • HRA2
  • HR2
  • HRTM
  • HRS
  • HRA3
  • HR3
  • HRTH
  • HRA-6X
  • HRSL
  • HLB
  • HSEC
  • HCFT

The HLB, HSEC, and HCFT are exceptions. These are actually heat shrinkable moulded parts, which can be used to seal the end of a cable, protect a cable splice, or create cable penetrations.

Differences between variants of black shrink tubing

Since there are many types of black shrink tubing available, there are also many differences between them. The main differences are the material of the tubing, wall thickness, shrink ratio, and shape.

Materials

Black heat shrink tubing is available in four materials: crosslinked fluoroelastomer, crosslinked polyolefin, crosslinked co-extruded adhesive lined polyolefin, and crosslinked adhesive lined polyolefin. Each of these materials has specific properties that make the tubing suitable for certain applications.

Wall thickness

In our range of black heat shrink tubing, you'll find thin-wall, medium-wall, and heavy-wall heat shrink tubing.

Thin-wall heat shrink tubing

Has a wall thickness of 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters before shrinking. The thin-wall variants are flexible, easy to install, and perfect for applications where the flexibility of cables must be maintained.

Medium-wall heat shrink tubing

Has a wall thickness after shrinking ranging from 1.6 millimeters to 3 millimeters. This offers better mechanical resistance than thin-walled tubing but reduces the flexibility of the cable.

Heavy-wall heat shrink tubing

Has a wall thickness after shrinking between 3.2 and 4.7 millimeters. This provides good mechanical protection and keeps the cable safe from external influences, such as wear or impact damage.

Shrink ratio

Not all of our types of black heat shrink tubing have the same shrink ratio. The following shrink ratios apply to one or more of our black heat shrink tubing types:

  • 2:1
  • 3:1
  • 4:1
  • 6:1

The shrink ratio indicates how much the tubing shrinks in diameter. For example, heat shrink tubing with a diameter of 32 millimeters before shrinking will have the following diameters after shrinking:

  • 2:1 – 16 millimeters after shrinking
  • 3:1 – 10.7 millimeters after shrinking
  • 4:1 – 8 millimeters after shrinking
  • 6:1 – 5.33 millimeters after shrinking

Shape

Our black heat shrink tubing is available in two forms: flat and round. The main difference is the shape. Flat heat shrink tubing is pressed flat, so it has a fold and doesn't stay open by default. Round heat shrink tubing, on the other hand, is often used in machine processing but cannot be printed on, unlike flat heat shrink tubing, which can be printed on. An additional advantage of flat heat shrink tubing is that it takes up less space, meaning more meters fit in a box or on a roll compared to round heat shrink tubing.

Applications of black shrink tubing

Since there are 27 types of black shrink tubing available, there is a wide range of applications for black shrink tubing. These include protecting and marking cables.
